THE
NOB HILL
STRING ENSEMBLES
SALON ORCHESTRA
Dance to the Romantic Sounds of
the Salon Era!
The Nob
Hill Salon Orchestra
was created to provide music for happy, festive occasions. This unique
ensemble offers
the "best in
danceable
American and Continental music from the 1890's to the 1940's,"
performed directly from the original
arrangements of the "salon" era.
With violin, cello and piano at its
core, this
"turn-of-the-last-century" orchestra can expand from three to 10
instruments -- including accoustic bass, flute, oboe and, of course,
more
strings -- depending on
the occasion and desired musical ambience.
From 1890 to 1940, salon orchestras
were heard everywhere -- in private
homes, classy restaurants and exclusive clubs.
Any hotel "worth its salt" had at
least one playing during lunch -- and
from "tea-time 'til after dark" -- while guests dined and socialized
and danced away the hours to waltzes and fox-trots ... rags and blues
... Tangos and polkas ... Charlestons and show tunes. Our salon
repertoire
includes
over 100 popular selections:
Songs like "Puttin' on the Ritz,"
"Isn't It Romantic,"
"September Song," "I Wanna to Be Loved By You," "Anything Goes," "Ain't
Misbehavin'," "Birth of the Blues," "Twelfth Street Rag" -- all the
great old tunes from times gone by!
The
Salon Orchestra
will take you back to the golden days
of steamer trunks and wicker chairs, potted palms, all-night
soirees
and "Dancing Cheek to Cheek."
